DOWNTOWN. This downtown restaurant serves excellent Cambodian food in a casual environment. While the surrounding neighborhood may not be postcard material, the authentic Cambodian food is a refreshing addition to San Jose's restaurant scene ­ especially for those who love the distinctive flavor of paprika. The specials change daily, and the waitstaff is efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. There is a second location in Campbell.

DOWNTOWN. In the mood for a little lemon grass, imperial rolls or chili-soy salmon? Then this downtown Asian delight is for you. The restaurant is decorated with bamboo and several sculptures, and the ceiling is at least 20 feet high. Their menu consists of dishes representing a fusion of Malaysian, Thai and Vietnamese. The lettuce cups are filled to the brim with shitake mushrooms, the corn fritters are crunchy, and the meats are cooked to perfection. As popular as their food is, many patrons also stop in for their unique selection of brews that include Gecko bay and India Pale Ale. E & O also offers several California wines.

DOWNTOWN. Ginza is located in San Jose's "Japantown" area. Although the service sometimes leaves a little to be desired, this casual lunch destination nevertheless maintains its popularity with members of the business crowd. The food is terrific, and this is a great place to do a little afternoon socializing.

DOWNTOWN. House of Siam is a Thai restaurant conveniently located in San Jose's downtown area. If you have an affinity for spicy food and an exotic setting, then this place will be right up your alley. Dishes like their pan-fried noodles and mixed vegetables or duck served in a pineapple are huge favorites with the business crowd who flock here during lunch hours. Several vegetarian options are also available.

A simple decor and excellent Vietnamese food ­ that's what you get when you visit Kien Gang. The restaurant offers such popular items as steamed prawns, charbroiled mussels, and Thai chicken wings in a quite casual atmosphere. Reservations are not required.
