DOWNTOWN. A.P. Stump's Chophouse is a favorite destination for couples in the downtown area who are looking for a classy night on the town. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable, and the club-like setting is intimate without being overly reserved. The menu features such entrees as lamb, ribeye and Maine lobster. The bar area is a popular place to hang out before or after dinner, and the restaurant also has a large patio area. Live jazz can be heard Tuesday through Saturday.

Michael Mina's Arcadia is ideal for a business lunch or dinner, or for a romantic date. The décor is simple and tasteful, with white linens and fresh flowers. Mina's menu offers a mix of classic and more contemporary American dishes: grilled steaks and oysters Rockefeller, lobster corn dogs and foie gras sliders. The whole chicken fried in duck fat and served with truffled mac and cheese wins raves, and desserts are worth a splurge.

WILLOW GLEN. Located in the quiet Willow Glen area, away from the bustle of downtown San Jose, but still close enough to be a good lunch getaway. This fun restaurant specializes in seafood and pasta, but also offers such dishes as filet mignon, roast chicken served with garlic potatoes, and some tasty baby back ribs. The restaurant's ski-lodge atmosphere is one that the doctor would order: a fireplace, pool tables, and a cozy bar area that seems to welcome you to stay for hours.

DOWNTOWN. Blake's is a traditional steakhouse whose classy interior includes beautiful woodwork and intimate window-side booths that offer great views of the nearby square. The steaks are purported to be among the best in San Jose; however, they also offer several fish, fowl, and seafood options. San Jose arena is within walking distance of Blake's Steakhouse and Bar. Reservations are suggested.

MINNESOTA. Located in San Jose's Minnesota suburb, Café Primo's atmosphere is refreshing and homey. Their menu is a nice mix of California and Mediterranean cuisine, including hearty breakfasts and lunch time fare such as panini and salads. Try to save room for one of their pastries for dessert or a cup of espresso.
